This website was established in 1997 to provide information on the activities of the European Union Concerted Action on Lyme Borreliosis (EUCALB) (see Zentralblatt für Bakteriologie March 1998  287 (30) pp. 173-276).

EUCALB is no longer funded by the EU and the current function of the website is to provide up-to-date information on Lyme Borreliosis in Europe in the form of short reviews and latest publications, and also to serve as a notice board for relevant scientific meetings. Additionally tick-borne encephalitis and zoonotic babesiosis, which are transmitted by the same vector, are now included. Although available to the general public, the site's primary targets are healthcare professionals, scientists and students. Members of the public visiting the site should note that the information provided is designed to support, not replace, the relationship that exists between a patient and his/her health professional.
